St. Vincent Family Center is an agency whose mission is to make good kids better by providing pediatric behavioral health care within a learning community to change the lives of children and families. The St. Vincent Mental Health Consultant facilitates and supports the social and emotional wellness of Early Childhood Education enrollees, conducts observations of identified children and classrooms, and offers feedback to staff and families. This feedback is in the form of recommendations that focus on strengthening children's social, emotional, and academic competence. The consultant can assist staff with planning and implementing specific mental health interventions within the classroom environment. All programs and supportive interventions are provided within the classroom setting. The Mental Health Consultant provides staff/family in-services on relevant mental health topics, along with referrals and linkages to appropriate mental health services for children and families. Provision of teaching tools and strategies to support positive self-esteem in children is a primary role of this discipline.
